Hi,
I just finished a liquid fasting( water, Fresh lime plain and butter milk without salt and about 3.5 litters of total fluid intake) lasting two weeks. I felt absolutely fine during this period and in fact lost almost about 6.5 kgs( From 82.5 to 76) during these fourteen days.
After I ended the fast, I immediately initiated GM diet from 15th day onwards and today is the end of my second day. I have been following it strictly. Have spaced my meals between 6-7 through out the day. Except today along with wonder soup smoothie i made, I also had a bowl and a half of bottle gourd soup.
I have been eating well since yesterday. Had 1 Mash melon/1 water melon/2 apples/1 pear/2 peach/4 strawberries/1 papaya/2 slices of pineapple yesterday.
Today started my day with two boiled potatoes with lil butter(less than half a tea spoon), followed by a platter of boiled veggies(Cauliflower/half red cabbage/3-carrots, it got slightly over boiled), followed by bottle gourd soup followed by salad( Lettuce/onions/Radish/cucumber/carrot with black salt/pepper/dash of lime) followed by boiled veggies again followed by GM soup and finally salad again.

I have been drinking about 8-10 glasses of water.( Of course, no butter milk since quite few days, I had stopped even while I was fasting towards the end days).

Through out these fourteen days and since yesterday when I began GM diet, I have been working out at Gym for about an hour fifteen minutes. Essentially 45 minutes of cardio followed by weights and crunches. But I didn't push my training, was keeping it moderate to keep metabolism going.

I have been checking my weight at nights usually as that is when I go to gym and usually after work out.

Today when I checked my weight, its gone up by 500 gms. It was 76.5.

Does one starts loosing weight from day one itself?
Is it because I have started having salt again that there is water retention that is causing the weight to go up?
Or, is it body is replenishing what it lost during fasting days??
I wish to loose another 4 kgs, from the remaining days is it still possible?

Please throw some light.

Well, you likely did have weight on you. You CANNOT weigh at night. You are weighing food in your body, weighing water, weight fecal matter, it does not work that way at all. Your true weight is ONLY! when you wake, go to the bathroom and before you eat or drink a thing weigh.

Fasting can be great! ONLY if you are healthy though. If you are overweight you are metabolically broken. So fasting can technically hurt. So basically you went into the GM diet after not eating for 2 weeks. Bad plan. You messed up your carb/calorie set point during that 2 weeks. You basically reset it at the level you were drinking, so say each day your calories were 500. So 500 becomes the new norm. Anything over will cause weight gain.

If you want to lose weight, fasting is not ideal. It's temporary big time for the reason I just mentioned. Or everyone would do it. You need balance. You need to be gluten and sugar free. Unfortunately the GM Diet cannot be done after fasting. No diet can. You also have to break a fast in a very scientifically specific way. Eating loads of fruit is not that way.

happy to help, keep rolling...

So you think I will gain more weight with this diet now??

I have been pretty healthy, my lipid profile was good too. I am 46 and I have no age related issues as such. Pretty much a vegetarian and prefer rice over chapatis.

And I have been sugar free for a year now, I have jaggery in my tea instead of sugar a small quantity. And I did put on weight in last 1 year or so, mostly eating at wrong times.

According to you what gap I should have kept before starting the Gm diet?
Should I stop the diet now, and resume after a period advisable??
Please advice, I am concerned. Don't wish to undo the benefits of the fast.

My point is breaking a fast is far more complicated than just running into the GM Diet on.

I am not saying you have done a terrible thing. It's great you fast if you want and you stuck with it. A weeks wait would have been good as you gently came off the fast. I am just being picky, I know how tough weight loss is, I have fasted, I have done it all. I truly think the key for you will be then balancing your meals! Each meal should have good carbs good fats and protein with lots of veg.

Rice is far better for you that wheat. There is no comparison. Rice is a simple starch. Wheat, well is just bad. Keep rolling on the diet. Let's see how you do at the end,

Hi Kevin,

Today is my fifth day. Had a cup(A Katori) of brown rice with half cup of curds, 1 chopped tomato and black salt added as my first meal.
Can I have more than 6 tomatoes if I am hungry?? Can I make a onion tomato kachumber and have?? can I have spinach soup?
My weight has been consistently the same more or less from when I started the fast.
yesterday it was on second day of fasting it was 74.8, on third day it was 75.8 on fourth it was 76 and on fifth that is today its, 76 as well. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't see any possibility of loosing any weight in remaining three days, but looks like it will remain more or less the same as when I ended by fast.

Awaiting your reply.

yes more tomato is OK, or add a cucumber. salt, pepper, spices, herbs are all OK, soups are fine but are they pure? No forbidden foods like cream, bad fats?

The last 3 days may be your best days, just keep rolling..

I have finished my sixth day successfully. Have been following the diet stringently.
For the last day tomorrow, I have a question. I am an eggatarian. Can I have rice with home made egg curry??(Boiled eggs, onions, garlic, boiled potatoes to get consistency and turmeric/chilly/cumin/Coriander powder with bit of garam masala cooked in ghee???)

Best to do egg only, if you want egg and rice, then 1 egg and a little rice. Spices are fine as you like if they are pure.

NO POTATO!!!! Fine after the diet in a balanced meal.

Hi Kevin,

On second round of GM diet after almost 6 weeks. Today is my second day. I lost about a kg till this morning.
not been exercising though almost for a month now. How much would that effect the results in terms of a weight loss ??
Though will start my exercises tomorrow any ways.
Last time around I didn't loose any weight, a kg may be.Had started immediately after a 14 day fast on water.
This time hoping to loose at least 4-5 kgs.
After my fasting I had lost about 7.5 kgs, from 82.5 to 75....which I have managed to maintain as is since last 6 weeks.
During normal days, I have restricted my carb intake to breakfast( Poha/Upma/Idlis) and a katori of rice for lunch. Thats it. No chapatis or rice after that. Have also managed to maintain 5-7 meals a day. But mostly stay with fruits as first meal of the day and mid day meals with soups and salads and boiled vegetables and omelette , slice of cheese , peanuts etc.
But I do crave for rice or chapatis at night and sweets during the day.
I didi take a piece or two of pizza or two slices of bread with omelette etc.....once in a week or when I am out on some social function and a small piece of chocolate if offered once or twice a week. Despite of all that, my weight has remained between 74.5 -75 with no exercise. I do consume two cups of tea..with a tea spoon of jaggery in it. Sugar I had quit long back.

Eventually I target to be at 65-68 kgs, I feel the healthiest and active with that weight. My height is 5'8".Loosing 7.5 kgs was a big boost and loosing another 5 kgs will be a further boost.

Do give me your feed back in terms of how more effective can I make these remaining 5 days.

Wishing you a very happy new year.

Happy NEW YEAR :)

Really your metabolism and increasing it can play a huge factor in weight loss.

You seem to be doing quite well. To me if you are happy rolling as you are great. I however cannot subscribe or help with 5 to 7 days a week, Snacking is problematic for folks needing to keep weight off. I could also list scientifically loads of other reasons why. I do 3 meals a day here. I am very happy to see you keeping the weight off though. Keep on going!

Hi Kevin,
At the end of my 4th day. Had 6 small bananas and about a litre( Four glasses) of milk so far. Will have a bowl of soup later if I feel hungry. This morning when I checked, my weight had dropped by 2.7 kgs over first three days.
For tomorrow, what can I have morning cup of brown rice with?
How many eggs allowed(Egg yellow???)How many tomatoes? And a bowl or two of GM soup should be fine I suppose.

you had mentioned earlier.."I however cannot subscribe or help with 5 to 7 days a week, Snacking is problematic for folks needing to keep weight off. I could also list scientifically loads of other reasons why. I do 3 meals a day here"..

could you please elaborate?
Are you saying 5-7 meals a day can be a problem.....3-4 meals should be fine...is that what youy meant?

Regards

Hi Kevin,

Today is my last day of the GM diet.
I lost weight for first four days. Totally about 3.6 kgs. I have been following the diet strictly.
On day 5- 7 tomatoes, a bowl of GM soup and a cup of rice with a teaspoon of ghee and chopped tomatoes in it with very little curds added to it.
On day 6: Started with a cup of rice mixed with green veggies semi cooked with a teaspoon of ghee followed by boiled vegetables , GM soup, Green salad and another cup of cooked mix vegetables with about 75 gms of paneer ( the packed one available ) in it.
But haven't shed a gm from 5th day onwards. From 75.1 to its 71.5 since the morning of fifth day when I checked.

Is there still hope that I might loose a pound or so by tomorrow??

Have started my day with a glass of watermelon juice followed by a cup of rice mixed with cooked ridge gourd veggie.

Though I would have preferred unto about 5 kgs, but 3.5 is fine too.
I am feeling much lighter. And the skin feels much better.

Hello…
Nice loss…

Rice or eggs only. White rice to me better. If you do rice for that dish it needs good fat like ghee.

Eggs, 3 max per meal, eggs much better than rice.

5 or so large tomatoes. GM soup is also just fine J

So sorry, I had missed your Monday post somehow.

You did well. Rice is not a great meat replacement, it's pure carbs and starch. However we have to have something for vegetarians. Eggs are much better. You actually did well and just maintaining is great. You were not allowed good fat with the rice, although a little is OK and you were not allowed curd day 7. It's rice only. That is actually a mistake.
